Interview Prep Checklist & Guide
1. RESEARCH THE COMPANY
● Visit the About Us page to understand their history and core activities.
● Learn their Mission Statement and Company Values - align them with your personal goals.
● Follow them on Social Media to stay updated (ie: LinkedIn).
● Explore their Products/Services, know what they offer and who they serve(clients or customers).
2. UNDERSTAND THE JOB ROLE
● Read the full Job Description carefully.
● Highlight key Skills and Strengths required.
● Align your own strengths and achievements with what's listed on the Job Description.
3. DRESS PROFESSIONALLY
● Choose neat, appropriate clothing, preferably in blue (symbolizes trust).
● Present a tidy appearance that shows high standards and respect for the process.
4. PLAN & ARRIVE EARLY
● Plan your travel route ahead of time.
● Arrive 10 minutes early to show punctuality.
● Keep contact info for the company handy (just in case).
5. MASTER NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
● Maintain good posture and sit upright.
● Make eye contact, smile genuinely, and stay calm.
● Avoid closed-off body language (e.g. crossed arms).
6. PRACTICE COMMON INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
● “Tell me about yourself”
● “Why do you want this job?”
● “What are your strengths?”
● “What is your weakness?”
● “Why should we hire you?”
NB: Practice tips: rehearse with a friend or in front of a mirror.
7. PREPARE A 30-60-90 DAY PLAN
● Draft a simple, actionable plan showing how you’ll add value in the first 90 days.
● Print and present it during the interview, especially when asked “Why should we hire you?”
8. AVOID NEGATIVE LANGUAGE
● Never speak badly about past employers or coworkers.
● When asked why you’re leaving your job, say you’re seeking a fresh challenge with a forward thinking company.
9. ASK SMART QUESTIONS (These are the example of questions you should ask the interviewer at the end of interview)
● Can you tell me more about the team I’d be part of?
● What advice would you give someone aiming to excel here?
